How to make Dalgona Coffee ?

Dalgona Coffee is a cold latte drink that comes with a velvety smooth and sweet coffee foam on top.

What is Dalgona Coffee?

It's also known as whipped coffee. The Dalgona coffee challenge started in January when Korean actor Jung Il-woo showed how to make the drink, albeit modified, during a television appearance at his home.

How to make Dalgona Coffee?

Step 1 – 1:1 ratio coffee ( single espresso shot ) and sugar.

In a large mixing bowl, add in 1:1 ratio coffee ( single espresso shot ) and sugar. You can also make Dalgona Coffee with instant coffee.  Add coffee, sugar and HOT water in 1:1:1 ratio.

Step 2 – Mix & Whip it out !

By Whisk 🥣 - first mix at lowest speed until all the coffee and sugar are dissolved. Then turn the speed to the highest setting and mix for about 8 – 10 minutes using a stand mixer using a whisk attachment.

By hand 🤚-  well, it will probably be like 13 minutes or more… I know, which is just too long but just letting you know it’s doable.

IMPORTANT – use a large mixing bowl (having enough space for your whisk to whip air in). If you are making it with Instant coffee it will take you half of the time.

Step 3 – Milk of your choice🥛

Fill 2/3rd of a cup. It can be hot or cold.

Step 4 – Spoon the foam and add it to the top of the cup.

Sprinkle the top with some hot cocoa powder or cinnamon. Mix it with a spoon to make a latte or just enjoy it as is with a little foam and milk all in one sip.

ENJOY!!! ONE ARO CUP TO MAKE THE DIFFERENCE ☕️

FAQS of Dalgona :

  • Does it have to be Instant Coffee? No, you can make it with an espresso. Personally, I like the flavor of the espresso version better.

  • Can I reduce the sugar amount? Yes. I tried it with 1/2 the sugar amount but you will only get a soft-peak foam and the color will be darker – so it kind of works.

  • Do I need a special tool like milk frother, hand mixer or stand mixer? No. You can totally make it by hand but you will need a good round whisk (flat one is not as good) and a big mixing bowl to allow more air to get in. But a hand mixer or stand mixer will make your life easier and will be quicker. Another quick and easy option to make Dalgona Coffee is to use your ninja blender !

  • Can I make a hot latte instead of cold? Of course! It depends on your preference.

  • Can I refrigerate the Dalgona foam? Yes. It will keep for a couple of days but will probably start to become watery after.

  • Do I really need to whip it 400 or 4000 times by hand or how long? I know some internet posts say you need to whip so many times. Well.. not 4000 but pretty much 350-400. ** Some Korean recipes used a spoon instead of a whisk – if you use a spoon, I’m sure it will take much much longer but it could be a good option to keep yourself busy during this quarantine.

  • My foam is not forming the stiff peak, should I just whisk longer? Yes and no. Making the foam with drip coffee (not instant) took about 3 times as long in the mixer so sometimes doing it longer helps but if you don’t see any change in a minute of whipping, there’s probably something wrong.
